Sara Philpott: Violin and Viola

In her teens, Sara had to choose between a career as an artist and her promise as a professional violinist, opting for the former. Now perhaps she has the best of both worlds: by day, just an ordinary visual artist, but by night, Sara uses her Extraordinary Melodic Powers to bring beauty to the world, deftly harmonising atonalities in pinks and yellows and turquoise and greens. It’s not always easy being synaesthetic... Sara’s touch is in demand and when not continuing her violin studies under the tutelage of a Mr Sherlock Holmes, she can be found in a string quartet, or occasionally playing her fiddle for a Ceilidh.

Andy Tyler-White: Guitar, Djembe and Cajon

A drummer and percussionist for over 30 years, Andy has played everything from punk to klezmer and has worked with the likes of Robbie Blunt and Jezz Woodroffe (Robert Plant band) and Jed Hoile (Howard Jones). His stage appearance with Bonnie Langford was unfortunate and regrettable. For some years he’s been captivated by the djembe and West African polyrhythms; he founded Djembata performance group in 2009, opening Festival at the Edge 2010. Andy has dabbled furtively in guitar since he was a teenager and now wishes he had taken it more seriously: his “co-liberation” with Sara has unlocked the writer within... and the writer is a prolific and awkward sod.
